1933: George T. Carr founded Lebanon Machine Shop in Lebanon, MO. As the advent of World War II approached, Lebanon Machine Shop was forced to close due to a scarcity of materials. Mr. Carr then moved to Detroit, MI where he formed a tool and die design company, Detroit Tool Engineering.

1943: Using Detroit Tool Engineering's material priority to source raw materials, Mr. Carr moved Detroit Tool Engineering to Missouri and merged with the Lebanon Machine Shop to form Detroit Tool & Engineering. Detroit Tool & Engineering developed into a leading contract designer and manufacturer of high quality special machines, automated assembly systems, tooling and fixturing.

1947: Detroit Tool Metal Products was founded by Mr. Carr as a means to diversity business relating to Detroit Tool & Engineering. The companies shared a 28,000 sq. ft. facility

1956: Detroit Tool Metal Products moves to its current location, and Detroit Tool & Engineering expands to encompass the entire 28,000 sq. ft. facility.

1965: An additional 16,000 sq. ft. is added to Detroit Tool & Engineering to support continuous growth in the tooling and fixturing business while allowing the company to expand into specialized custom machines.

1969: Detroit Tool & Engineering expands and additional 25,000 sq. ft. to allow for growth in the tooling and special assembly area and expand the machine shop.

1979: The facility expands an additional 38,000 sq. ft. to accommodate the increasing manufacture of larger and more sophisticated machines. The first machines to be completed were five, ten station glass molding machines destined for France, Italy and Holland. The electric and air operated machines produced glass containers at a rate between 150 and 350 units / minute.

1983: Detroit Tool & Engineering acquires and additional 38,000 sq. ft. facility on an 18 acre site the eventually becomes Detroit Tool & Engineering Special Machines complex.

1988: The Detroit Tool & Engineering Special Machines complex expands another 30,000 sq. ft.

1989: The Special Machines complex expands another 25,000 sq. ft.. Detroit Tool & Engineering is acquired by the Detroit Tool Group.

1990: Detroit Tool & Engineering builds a 3,600 sq. ft. heat treat facility.

1992: DT Industries is formed through a series of acquisitions that begins with the initial acquisition of the Detroit Tool Group and Peer Division of Teledyne, Inc.

1994: Detroit Tool & Engineering expands its Special Machines assembly area by 62,000 sq. ft. and adds a 26,700 sq ft. office and engineering facility to its complex. Detroit Tool & Engineering now totals over 300,000 sq. ft. of floor space.

1999: Detroit Tool undertakes construction of a 12,150 sq. ft. welding facility and expands its warehouse to 22,000 sq. ft.

2004: Detroit Tool & Engineering is bought by Assembly & Test Worldwide, Inc.
